Dream Logs

Does anybody keep a dream log? I've just recently started. I promised a girl I would start, but I don't know why she would want me to. I don't see that it has much benefit. I've never believed that dreams mean anything. I see them as just random collections of images and ideas your subconscious mind pulls together in a nonsense way, and it doesn't actually mean anything. I only have a few entries so far. She will text or call me in the middle of the night to interrupt my dream since you retain it better that way, and I'll write about whatever it was I was dreaming about. I write it in greentext format (with a green pen, naturally) because it's easier to spit out ideas that way, rather than trying to form complete sentences and ideas when I'm barely conscious.

Now some music. Some dope dubstep from Camo, pretty sick.

Also since I'm writing about the girl, Beauty School by Deftones. We kissed for the first time listening to this.

Supervision

Looks like I haven't posted since I got my promotion. I've been a supervisor for about two months now and it is not the most enjoyable experience ever. In fact there are some days that the only way I make it through is by remember that this is temporary, I'm not going to do this forever and next year my life is going to be completely different. I've found that working in middle management is difficult because, as a friend of mine put it who was also a supervisor for this company at one time, 'The shit rolls both uphill and downhill.' It was a very succinct way to put it; on the one hand, my employees are constantly looking for opportunity's to demonize me for not giving them all the things their little hearts feel entitled to, and on the other hand upper management has trouble sympathizing with my reasons for not cracking the whip to churn out faster, better results. More and more I realize how difficult it is to perform this balancing act day in and day out; keeping morale on my work force high so my employees don't hate their job, and meeting the increasing expectations and deadlines of my superiors, in addition to being able to go home each day feeling good about what I do and who I am.

I'll leave off with some music: I haven't heard anything out of Teebee for a while, so I was stoked to come across this.

Fresh Music

Music is a huge part of my life, so it makes sense that I should be use my blog to share good music I've found with others. As a background, I started getting serious about music around 19. In high school I was into rock and metal, and I still like that stuff, but around the time I graduated I started going to raves and clubs. I knew I had always sort of liked techno, had a few CD's here and there, but at that time it wasn't the main thing I listened to. After the typical 9 month career of staying out raving late, taking drugs, getting in trouble and all that, I started really getting into the music. The drugs and the scene took a backseat to the DJ's and producers, and just like that I was hooked.
Now almost 10 years later, electronic music is still my heart and soul. I play and produce drum n bass, dubstep, minimal techno, ambient and downtempo, but will occasionally dabble in other styles if I'm in the mood. One of the traits of a good DJ is the ability to find unique, quality tracks; anyone can buy the latest releases, or the top ten house songs of the month, but a real DJ prides himself in the hunt. Here are some things I've come across lately that I'm enjoying (and hope you will too).

Naibu - Dusk
This is one of my favorite kinds of tracks, the sort where the beat doesn't change much and on the surface not much is going on, but it's engaging and intriguing throughout. Chill bedroom listening, with a piano hook that just makes you feel good.

Charlie P - On The Couch
An interesting twist to the usual wobble bassline dubstep is known for, this song has a sharp, swelling quality with a subtle, somber tone. Great drums too.

I'll end it here for now, maybe this can become a series of posts in the future. Enjoy!

The State of Things

Back in December, I had the opportunity to start thinking about my life. It was more like a wake up call, letting me know that if I didn't get something going, I was going to end up with nothing. I've spent the past few years caught up in a relationship that wasn't always very fulfilling, and I spent my time trying to fix or save what I thought was wrong. When I wasn't doing that, I was drinking, playing with music, and just generally hoping something was going to come along and a new path would lay out before me. Not surprisingly, things haven't happened that way. When the girl told me that we had no future together and never could, I realized I was 26, still living at home, working a decent but low paying job, no higher education, low credit, overweight, and now alone. It motivated a desire in me to change everything. I didn't care what it would take, I just had to find a way to become more than what I was.

Six months later, I've come up with a plan. I'm going to be taking a supervisor position at my work within the next month. The pay is more than I've ever made in my life. This income will allow me to pay off my debts and save money to move to Seattle by the end of the year. Once there, I can begin attending a school I've found with a great sound engineering course. It's expensive, but with my resume bolstered by the recent promotion I expect I can find a decent job to help me pay for school. My target is to begin during the January 2012 quarter. The long term goal is to get my degree and go to work in my career field before I turn 30.

I feel good about this. Confident. I'm not eager to leave my friends and family, but I can't wait to put this city and state behind me and have a real life, one that I can finally respect myself for.

Return

It's been a while, blog. My life is about to go thru some pretty radical changes, so I felt it was time to start using you again. I've changed. Everything has changed. And still, it will change more. I'm going to need help keeping track of it all, and that's where you come in. The idea is to spill my thoughts, feelings and ideas into you, knowing the only people I will share this blog with are strangers. I will never let anyone close to me know you exist, but I will offer you up to any faceless and unknown person online. This is an experiment: can people I have never met grow to know me better than those who see and speak to me every day?

Time to get started.

More Drifting

Things have been bad with Ashley and I. After finding out she had been messing around with another guy, my mind really started to go berserk and lose focus. I went up a couple days ago to talk things thru... but I couldn't do it. I couldn't bring myself to try and talk about things. I ended up just leaving and only making it a couple blocks before pulling off to the side of the road, breaking down and sobbing for half an hour or so.

Later on my way home I called her from Walmart, agitated, standing in the beer section, asking her to help me keep from getting drunk. She was annoyed. She doesn't understand the nature of addiction. We ended up talking about a lot of things. I felt better for a little while. At least I knew she still cared about me. But she made it clear our relationship isn't the same. She isn't serious about us the way she used to be. The way I am.

So I felt better til last night. Then I started feeling bad again. I asked if I could call her before I went to bed... she said no. Said that she was having people over, and then she was going to sleep. I don't think she's ever done that before. The more I think about it, the more it bothers me. It prompted me to decide that I'm not going up there anymore. She said she likes to come and see me instead, so we can really be together and she can relax and feel normal and happy with me... I don't know if I believe her. I've always had the impression that the reason she is more distant when I go up to visit her is because she doesn't want people knowing about us. She only relaxes when we are alone or when she is reasonably sure we aren't around anyone she might know. It seems clear, even though she denies it... she doesn't want me risking her chances with other guys. That's what I've always felt, the moment I first arrived and she didn't hug me or kiss me... instantly I thought 'She doesn't want anyone seeing us together. Thinking she has a boyfriend.' Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I should trust her more. But my instincts come on so strong in this situation that they are hard to ignore.

I have to accept it for what it is. Even if I'm not sure what it is. I have to be willing to be 'just friends'. She is stressed out by her roomates, falling behind in school... just knowing me at this point is stress she doesn't want. I have to be willing to be whatever she needs me to be... even if she needs me to be gone.

I don't want to date around. I love Ashley. But I don't want to feel this way. I don't want to feel lonely, knowing that she is up there doing things with other people, not worried about our relationship. I have girls who want to be with me. I think it's time I let them in. If Ashley doesn't want me... I'm going to find someone who does.

The Common Sickness

Another bad few days. Tuesday night Ashley set me off. She was talking to me about how she hates her roomates again. I'm getting tired of having this conversation with her. I guess I was a little too 'in your face' with my responses. I want her to change the situation or stop complaining about it. I've watched this affect her for too long, I see how they walk on her. My anger got the best of me, but I was trying to help. My reward was discovering she didn't know if she loved me.

I thought I was above this. I know, no matter what she says or what my brain tells me, that we will be together in the end. I know the goals I set forth are not aspirations, but destinations. Yet somehow I caved. I broke into my sisters room, found her stash, and began drowning as I've done countless times before.

I got drunk Tuesday night, skipped school and continued drinking Wednesday, skipped school again to recover Thursday. I was vomiting for hours. Small wonder. I put away more liquor in 48 hours than most people can consume in a week. I was even drunk around my niece, though I doubt she realized how bad it really was. I justify my bad example by knowing that her mother isn't a better example. She drinks around her all the time, so what's the problem when I do it?

The problem is that I want to recover. I want to stop, to put it away. My sister revels in drinking, still believes it serves her as a positive thing. I abhorr it. Hate it because of the damage it has caused and continues to cause. I'm afraid to even think about the condition of my liver and kidneys. My stomach and regularity problems aren't incidental, as my niece pointed out so matter-of-factly to me last night. They are a result. And considering the life I've been living for the past few years, those complications are minor enough. Every day I wake up hungover I wonder if my liver will fail. Some nights after bingeing I feel certain I'm going to have another seizure. I am in pain, miserable when I spend hours over the toilet, vomiting up that foul, yellow ichor, wondering if the next time I do it if it will be mixed with blood. This is the sickness that has become all too common in my life.

I seem to meet with failure every time I try to dry out. I make all these breakthroughs in my classes, but when it comes down to it, I'm never able to resist when I need to most. I have to find a way to change, before I lose it all.

But how?
